User Roles
The Polar Portal has a number of different user roles to limit access and ensure safety of the sites that are connected to the system. Below is a list of the roles available.
Multiple roles can be active at once, i.e one could be a technician and manager. This would provide the highest level of access to the system.
However the lower role will take priority, so if one adds themselves as a manager and a read only then the read only will overwrite the manager privileges.
Note: As a 1st time, self registered user, to the system your default role will be Manager. In order to gain technical access you will need to edit your role to Technician as well.
Technician
This role is for the technical user, it allows access to the setup and configuration features of the system. It also allows full access to the devices that the Polar Gateway is attached to.
- All access and rights from user role.
- Access to programming tab on devices to view and program devices remotely.
- Editing of tiles and Modbus registers.
- Adding and managing gateways and subscriptions.
Managers
This role is for managing user access and rights to subscriptions, Gateways, devices and sites. This role would be for the administrator of the subscription to manage their Polar Portal account.
- All access and rights from user role.
- Add and manage user access rights.
- Add and manage subscriptions.
- Add and manage Gateways, subscriptions and access.
User
This role is the standard user on the portal. It allows the standard functionality on the system
- View various device tabs
- Live
- Historical
- Alerts
- Errors
- Setup notifications.
- Receive notifications.
- View and setup reports.
- Download CSV’s.
- Use buttons for remote start/stop.
Read Only
This role allows users to only view certain pages on the platform. It is used for users that we do not want to have any form of control on the platform.

- Receive notifications
Notifications
This role is purely for notification purposes, a user with this role will not be able to login to the Polar Portal at all. But can be setup to receive the notifications from the system via, push, email or SMS.
